Why does tempered glass need to be homogenized?
Tempered glass is a kind of prestressed glass. In order to improve the strength of the glass, chemical or physical methods are usually used to form compressive stress on the surface of the glass, so that when the glass is subjected to external forces, it first offsets the surface stress, thereby improving the impact resistance of the glass.

Hot soak treatment is also called homogenization treatment, commonly known as "detonation". Hot dip treatment is to heat the tempered glass to 290℃±10and keep it warm for a certain period of time, which prompts the nickel sulfide to quickly complete the crystal phase transformation in the tempered glass, so that the tempered glass with defective quality and possible self-destruction can be artificially broken in advance. In the factory's hot dip furnace, thereby reducing the self-explosion of tempered glass in use after installation. This method generally uses hot air as the heating medium, and is internationally known as "HeatSoakTest", or HST for short, which is literally translated as heat soak treatment.

01 Why does tempered glass need to be homogenized?

The main purpose of homogenizing tempered glass is to reduce the self-explosion rate of tempered glass. Nickel sulfide crystals appear in the tensile stress area of tempered glass, and self-explosion occurs when the crystals transform. Therefore, a glass tempering furnace is generally used to homogenize the glass to improve the safety of the glass.

02 Homogenization process

The process of homogenizing tempered glass includes three stages: heating, insulation, and cooling, which is similar to the tempering process of the original glass.

1Warming stage: The temperature rise starts from the ambient temperature of the glass and stops when all the glass reaches 280. The glass surface temperature is not allowed to exceed 320. The time for the glass surface to exceed 300should be shortened as much as possible, which requires us to heat up more evenly. .

2Insulation stage: After all the glass reaches 280 degrees Celsius, start the insulation and keep the glass surface temperature within the range of 290°C ± 10°C for at least two hours.

3Cooling stage: After the insulation is completed, the cooling stage is entered to allow the glass to drop to room temperature. When the temperature in the furnace drops to 70°C, the furnace door can be opened to terminate the cooling output.
