What are the materials of insulating glass?

As we know, insulating glass is a glass product that is made by evenly separating two or more pieces of glass with effective support and sealing them around the edges, so that a dry gas space is formed between the glass layers. Its main materials are glass, warm edge spacers, corner plugs, butyl rubber, polysulfide rubber, and desiccant.

From the definition of insulating glass, we can see that insulating glass is not just a piece of glass, it is composed of other materials, and these materials have their own advantages.

For example, molecular sieves are used to keep the interior of the cavity dry and condense-free at -40°C; insulating glass generally uses 3A molecular sieves as water absorbents, and its water absorption rate is over 20%.

Another example is gas. The middle layer of insulating glass needs to be filled with gas. However, the performance will be different depending on the gas selected. The middle layer of good insulating glass is generally filled with inert gas.

Then there is butyl glue. It is a plastic glue that mainly plays a role in water tightness and air tightness. The bonding between it and the glass is mainly physical bonding. In our daily life, the most common thing we hear about insulating glass is fog, among which the sealing is one of the reasons.

The last one is polysulfide glue, which also protects the seal and makes the insulating glass a unit.
