Tempered glass and semi-tempered glass (also called heat-reinforced glass) both require heat treatment, but have different strengths and uses.
tempered glass:
Cooling process: fast, with high surface stress (10,000 psi)
Strength: Four to five times stronger than ordinary float glass
Safety: safety glass. broken into small, blunt pieces
Usage: Doors, shower rooms, windows, furniture
Semi-tempered glass (also called thermally strengthened glass):
Cooling process: Slower, with lower surface stresses (3,500-7,500 psi)
Strength: twice as strong as ordinary float glass
Safety: Non-safety glass. When broken, larger fragments and radioactive cracks are formed
Purpose: Application fields that have high imaging requirements and require certain tempered glass properties
